The whole east coast is dealing with some crazy weather. I’ve been seeing dustings of snow in Florida and the Carolinas across my social media feeds. In the northeast, we’re currently experiencing that kind of cold that makes your eyes tear and your teeth sting if you smile while outdoors. Now, usually I’m not someone who complains about winter and the cold weather. I don’t actually mind the cold and I very much like living somewhere where I have all four seasons. However, this cold, is a little too intense for me. I’ve lived in NJ my entire life and I don’t ever recall having multiple days of 14 degrees being the high temperature. Just last week we were hit with something the weather channel called a “bomb cyclone” snow storm! I originally heard my area would see about 4 inches of snow and we ended up with about 7. As down as I am for the occasional snow day, I’m going to need mother nature to turn up the heat a bit. A warm 30 degrees would be more than lovely!
Most of the time, I am a fashion over function kind of gal. During 14 degree days though fashion goes mostly out the window. I’ve been reaching for cute and cozy sweatshirts, pull-overs, and sweaters to get me through this arctic chill. Even for work, I’m more casual. I won’t necessarily wear a hoodie or anything, but a fleecey pull-over wit jeans and snow boots has become the norm. It’s hard to become excited to get dressed in the morning when it’s dark and freezing out! I’ve found owning a few cute and cozy winter wardrobe staples help me to feel a little more pulled together in these chilly months when I’m dressing more for function and comfort.
Recently Uggs have become a staple in my winter wardrobe. After high school I never wore them except as slippers around the house. So you can image the pair I had was in pretty rough shape. Mike upgraded me and got me a new pair of the short Uggs for Christmas and even got them monogrammed. In my opinion Uggs certainly aren’t the most fashionable of footwear, but they’re essential if you live somewhere where you may experience a bomb cyclone. Some days you just have to ditch the cute leather chelsea boots for a pair of chestnut Uggs – it is what it is. Plus…the monogram makes everything cuter right!
Also, a firm believer in a chenille sweater. The yarn is incredibly soft and comfortable, but it also has a really pretty sheen to it, making it look a bit more dressy. Win and win! I love these sweaters for the office, evening events, and date nights. Everything thinks I put some kind of thought or effort into my outfit and I’m just smirk because it feels like I’m wearing pajamas!
Those are just a few of my winter wardrobe staples. Shop my other favorites….
Stay warm and cozy friends. And remember trading in fashion for function occasionally is more than okay, sometimes it’s necessary!
